Statistics point out that an average person spends most of the good part of his life in an office chair. In fact, some people spend more time facing a computer than sleeping. Thus, there is the need for comfortable and supportive office chairs.

Here are a few considerations while selecting office chairs:

  • Lumbar support: A good office chair will support the lower back. Some models offer adjustable back support to fit the lower back. It should fit the shape of the spine and also the curve of the lower back. This will prevent back pain and serious conditions like sciatica.
  • Feet: Feet should rest comfortably, flat on the floor. If this is not the case, the chair height can be adjusted or a footrest added.
  • Armrests: These should sit close to the body and permit relaxation of shoulders.
  • Arm height: The adjustment of the arm height should be possible, and it should match the height of the executive desk. This will avoid shoulder strains.
  • Posture: When sitting straight on the chair, the middle of the computer must be seen.
  • Backrest: The chair’s back should come to the middle of the shoulder blades to provide enough support. If it is above the shoulders, it is even better.
  • Cushion: If possible, choose memory foam for the cushion of the chair. Other types of cushion make you uncomfortable and wear out fast.
  • Adjustability: Many office chairs come in adjustment features numbering 5 to 14. Adjustment features include arms height and width, width of seat back, lumbar support, tension control, etc.
  • Wheelbase: Almost all executive chairs have wheelbase, but in a carpeted office, specially made wheelbase is required. Rolling is important for sharp movements, seated on the chair.
  • Swivel base: Office chairs need to swivel freely to permit access to all sections of the desk. This will prevent arm fatigue.
  • Fabric: It should be breathable and comfortable to avoid discomfort and heat built-up through hours of sitting.

Choosing the right office chairs should not only match office interiors but must be ergonomic. It improves worker productivity by reducing fatigue and preventing health problems like back pain.
